A little bit more about Playmates at Hough Green

Playmates Hough Green is a well-established and respected nursery and pre-school in Widnes. Our newly refurbished setting provides high quality childcare and our staff are highly qualified and passionate about education in the early years. They nurture the children in our care and build strong relationships with the children and parents through their attentive key worker bonds.

We welcome babies and children up to the age of five into a safe and homely environment, where they are fed nutritious homemade meals, and are encouraged to learn and play, building up their confidence as they grow.

Children also benefit from our specially developed school readiness programme, Rising Stars, which aims to equip children with the skills to flourish in primary school.

Age Groups

Our nursery is split into 4 rooms, with each room devoted to caring for a specific age range. We’ve designed our nursery so that children move between rooms when they are ready, not based on when their birthday is.

Here at Playmates Nurseries our days are not rigidly structured but all rooms try to keep to a routine which the children can recognise and anticipate. A familiar routine helps to ensure that your child is happy and secure.

Caterpillars:

0-1-year-olds

Our Caterpillar room warm and calming, filled with plenty of toys to keep babies entertained. Our focus is on helping your baby develop and learn through multi-sensory experiences.

Babies are encouraged to roll-around freely, which is particularly good for babies learning to sit and stand for the first time. We also have cots that allow babies to have a lie down when needed.

Butterflies:

1-2- year-olds

There is a whole new world of activities to explore as children move into our Butterflies room. At this age, children start to benefit from a general routine with free play sessions, snack time and other age appropriate activities.

Rest and sleep is still a vital for our Butterflies outside of the individual children’s routines we provide sleep mats or beds after lunch and encourage children to take a nap if required.

Ladybirds:

2-3-year-olds

Our excellent nursery staff support the children’s language development, encouraging plenty of imitation and conversation. Social development skills and peer relationships are bolstered through group activities and especially during meal times.

At this age, children often start to show an interest in potty training. Our staff work alongside parents to continue toilet training at nursery with the help of our child sized toilets and sticker charts.

Preschool:

3-5-year-olds

Children join our Preschool from the age of 3 and gradually begin their preparation for school. Here children are encouraged to explore technology and are introduced to letters and numbers.

When the time does come for the children to continue their education journey in primary school, we are here to provide as much support as needed and liaise with local schools to ensure a smooth transition for all.

Sessions

Playmates Nursery & Pre-school in Hough Green is open from 7:30am until 6pm 51 weeks of the year. We are closed on bank holidays.

Full Day Session: 8.00am – 6.00pm
Regular Morning Session: 8.00am – 1.00pm
Regular Afternoon Session: 1.00pm – 6.00pm
Early start: 7.30am – 8.00am
